Automated Item Banking and Test Development Model used at the SSAC

The approach to design of an automated item banking and test development system can be envisioned as an integration of three phases: development of an item bank, retrieval of items from the item bank for construction of tests with prespecified characteristics and publication of test booklets. In order to provide these three phases SSAC has developed the in-house Automated Item Banking and Test Development system. This system consists of two parts. The main part of the system is the item bank consisting of items stored in computer storage as MS Word files. The second part of the system is a software suite for retrieval of items from the bank for construction of tests with prespecified characteristics, and assembling and formatting test booklets. In this paper Automated Item Banking and Test Development Model used at SSAC is described and its functioning is presented.
